THE POWER OF MINDFULNESS: PRACTICING POSITIVITY AND OPTIMISM EVERYDAYMarch 25, 2018 March 25, 2018
he human brain is quite a powerful asset – more powerful than many people seem to give it credit for. While the mind has the capability to be shortsighted, selfish and destructive, our minds also allow us to be compassionate, loving and selfless. Is it really possible to change our emotional output through a simple shift in our state of mind? Actually, with the incredible gift that is positive thinking – something that we’re all capable of – it is!

Our Louisiana integrative health clinic firmly believes that our attitudes, positive or negative, play a major role in our overall outlook on life, even on a day-to-day basis. You might be surprised at just how far your mental fortitude can carry you through some of life’s trials and tribulations, instead of turning to solutions like pharmaceutical medications. At Infinite Health, we believe in the “mind body spirit” philosophy and the understanding that integrative health services incorporate physical, mental, spiritual and emotional aspects of your life.
We’re going to cover a few ways that you can practice positivity and optimism in your everyday life. Really, what have you got to lose by being positive? USE POSITIVE WORDS WHEN TALKING OR THINKING
If you’re constantly telling yourself that “you can’t”, then, well, you probably won’t be able to do something. Replace the “can’ts” with “cans”, telling yourself that you will do your best no matter what challenge lies ahead. Changing the actual verbiage of the words going in and out of your brain can have a profound effect on your mood, cognition, and emotional state.
GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT
Don’t focus on what you could’ve done, but rather, focus on what you did do. Often, when we feel frustrated or upset, we only concentrate on the bad things or the mistakes we’ve made, instead of giving ourselves credit for what we did right. Allow yourself to feel confident about the things you have accomplished, even if you’ve made some mistakes in other areas.
We aren’t perfect – human beings are inherently flawed, and really, that’s perfectly okay. We all make mistakes from time to time, and it’s through these mistakes that we can learn and improve ourselves. Constantly beating yourself up about things that have gone wrong won’t change them or make them right. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you’ve made, genuinely apologize to others involved if necessary, and allow yourself to move on. Don’t dwell on the past, but instead, use it as a building block for the future.
TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND LET THINGS HAPPEN
Many of us struggle with this, maybe because we just care a little bit too much from time to time. Sometimes the best way to deal with problems is simply to relax, take a series of deep breaths, and let things run their course. In many situations, things can often appear to be a bigger deal than they really are and reminding yourself of this can help you relax and not feel so stressed out.
